I'm trying to decide between the Army or the Marines. I'm leaning toward the Army Reserve to get a feel for it.. but is it possible to switch branches anytime after I'm done with basic? Any recruiters out there, especially in Southern California (more specifically near Torrance/San Pedro/Etc)? If so, hit me up with a PM

The Marines wont take any other branches Basic. If you want the best quality of life, join the Air Force, Im loving it.

You will have to fulfill the enlistment contract for whatever branch you sign up with, with the possible exception of the Air Force and Navy. Those branches have a "Blue To Green" program that allows you to transfer to the Army after completing a transition course.

Any Marine can transfer to a sister branch, all they need to do is complete an indoctrination course.

I think he's talking about transfering mid way through his enlistment.

That a Marine can't transfer to another branch of the military halfway through his enlistment.

I was going to argue "everything is waiverable" but the Marines probably wouldn't let him any time soon, so I agree with your point.

    probable > possible

Short of the involvement of your congressman or a similar political force, I don't see any chance of a Marine routinely transferring to another branch midway through an enlistment. The Navy and Air Force have a program set in place for this, which is why they can do it relatively easily - but even with this program, they are only able to transfer to the Army.

We just had a fresh recruit from our National Guard unit transfer to the Marine Corps within the 2 months after he graduated AIT. He's in basic right now.
