Brand new Bushmaster.
rust or grease?can't realy tell from the pics
and chambers werent 5.56mm
What were the chambers?
If the parkerizing solution didn't get under the FSB, then how did the rust get there?
i've got a 20 incher that i recently ripped/cut the fbs off of.and ther was a bit of grease.but i bought it 3-4 years ago
The horror! I can only imagine the function issues that rifle had. You know, I've heard those LMT rifles without parkerizing under the FSB fail all the time too.
Spraypaint/coldblue is kinda expensive and hard to apply.
I completely understand this bitch.
Still not seeing a problem.
All I see is a douchebag making a mountain out of a molehill, and a minor inconvenience with a 6-second fix.
do you like rust on/in your gun?
No, but that's not the point of this thread. It's just more johnson nut swinging (now there's an interesting statement) on brand names as usual.
While it is interesting, I don't think I've ever heard of an AR having problems because of corrosion under an un-parked FSB. Hell, even glorious LMT doesn't bother to do it.
On the subject of LMT, what do you guys think the odds are that Johnson would have posted this if it were an un-parked LMT barrel showing rust?
Putting all "M4C Chart" and Tier 1/2/3 BS aside... I'd be fucking pissed if I just dropped $1k on rifle and came out of the box corroded.
edit: Apparently a $195 barrel assembly, but the sentiment is the same.
even parked surfaces will have rust on it if not oiled and stored correctly.
Get some CLP and a brush and it will come right off. Might need a bronze brush or something.
Also, it looks like the back of the FSB isnt even parked though.
it's not a real gun, if it's rust free... and doesn't have mud, or sand packed in.
Russia's Federal Security Service is called the FSB.
for the record, i dont have an lmt upper. That's why I got a BCM.
FSB = Front Side Bus
But i've heard it standing for Front Sight Base before too.
My LMT has a tiny bit of rust under the FSB from shooting in the rain. BFG, it still will shoot fine I didn't buy my rifle to show it off, I bought it to shoot.
I just guessed it meant fucking shitty barrel. AR lingo is frustrating.
Exactly. There are tens of thousands of ARs out there without parkerizing under the FSB, and I have yet to actually hear of a problem attributed to it.
I've got no love of safe queens either but I guess I draw a distinction between corrosion due to use in the elements vs. corrosion out of the box.
