Some lady at the computer store was trying to tell me about how bad Norton software was bad for the mac. She was doing a really bad job and i was wondering if someone will explain why or at least point me in the direction of an article that explains it.

    Thanks

i use virex, but only because it's free with my .mac subscription.

norton gives us headaches with some software at work. the official fix is to disable norton.

Seriously, Norton sucks in general, for PC's or MAcs (specially on macs, or so I hear ;))

Would you buy software from a company that promoted people to write virii for the Mac so they could sell more software for the Mac?

    Yea....

actually, that's a plus for norton. I'm tired of sackriders saying that apple is more secure... It's not. It's just that so few people use it that it's not worth the effort of a delinquent to affect the few % of apples. They'd rather go after the other 95% PCs and get some exposure.

Although I do not actually mean what I just said, there is much truth in it.

Yea, but wouldn't the first person to write a major virus for the Mac get just as much exposure for wreaking havoc on something long touted as secure?

Either it really is that secure or nobody has looked hard enough.

with the way apple is gaining popularity, it's probably only a matter of time. Most all of the more dangerous security exploits to have surfaced under OS X have been on Apple's side of the fence, as opposed to BSD.. things like the Help.app exploit and the safari default security settings.

That said, it is 10000000x more secure than windows :mamoru:
