Hey everybody. I'm looking to get some nice speakers just to play with with my cd player and maybe turntable. Mostly I want it to sound pretty good, and have a lot of bass available. I have an old Technics CD player, and a pretty crappy Sony amp. I also have a cd player/tape player/radio that has two plug ins for it. So mostly I'm looking for a good speakers and an amp to go along.

What would be really good is if I could find something decent to hold me off till I get a little more money. My friend is ordering from overstock.com, and I was looking at their audio, and some of it looked pretty good. Here's the page for speakers. [size=-1]

I don't really want to build a speakerbox, not just yet. So preassembled speakers are a plus.

I have just a few more questions. What are the main differences between something liek this: http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=846571
and something like this: http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=531131 or this: http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=752758
Sorry for all the questions. I'm just wondering cuz I really want to get some when my buddy orders. Anythings better than what I got now :o

I am assuming you are wanting this for home audio? If so, the first two links you provided were for car audio speakers. They would work, but IMO it would be better to get home speakers. The first link is just a subwoofer, and is designed to only play bass. The other link is a fullrange box, which can play most of the audible sound range. And the last link is for a home subwoofer.

The 1st and 3rd links would not be good all by themselves unless you want to listen only to bass. The 2nd would work, but IMO it would be better to buy a pair of home speakers.

How much do you want to spend, and what are your listening tastes? Do you play it really loud, do you like a lot of bass, do you like a 'neutral' sound, etc.

Sometimes, for like parties or whatever, it'll be loud. Otherwise, not so loud. I do like a lot of bass, but not so much that it sounds like crap. A lot of good sounding bass :big thumb: Mostly rap/hip-hop if that helps. I can probably spend anywhere up to maybe ~250 for two speakers, possibly more.

Find some good used floor speakers maybe. IMO best bang for the buck for bass. Not counting having a dedicated sub of course, which probably wont fit in your budget.

The only issue may be with the woofer surround rotting on older ones, but that can be repaired pretty cheaply.
