why do arcs jump from different different issue to issue like civil war? or is there something i'm missing? or is it just a way of giving different views of the story?

yikes! marketing 101, sell truckloads of copies by any means.

scenario 1 - big summer event
    objective 1 - promote event
objective 2 - do as many tie-ins as humanly possible

this way...all the nerds can have all the angles on the entire story.

I don't read any of the tie-ins that I don't care for. Main Civil War/Frontline, Spiderman, FF, new avengers, and thats about it.

I flipped through them at the comic shop, looked utterly boring. I do read astonishing xmen, thats a bit better.

I'm buying all of the civil war tie-ins, just because I know later I'll start thinking, damn all I need is a couple more issues to have it all, and then realize the prices on it are insane, but end up paying it anyway. :hs:

dc uses the 8 to track the timeline / read order of the different titles for that particular hero.

    for example
    ACTION COMIC 1
    SPECTACULAR SUPERMAN 2
    SON OF KRYPTON 3
    SUPERMAN 4
    I REALLY DON'T KNOW SUPERMAN TITLES 5
    ACTION COMIC 6
    SPECTACULAR SUPERMAN 7
    SON OF KRYPTON 8
    SUPERMAN 9
    I REALLY DON'T KNOW SUPERMAN TITLES 10

    forever and ever
