Most lenses come with that plastic shade thing that extends on the end. What is a situation when you say, "OK gotta use the shade"? I see people shoot with it indoors and out. Do you use yours regularly? If so when and under what conditions? Thanks!

Wherever you can, situations where it shades a flash or gets in the way of something else notwithstanding.

It also protects the front element from anything that would bump into it.

as for reading about the fingerprints comment....just remember if you've taken off the lens cap already:o:rofl:. I went to reach for the lens cap that wasn't there last weekend and so I had to clean it:rofl:

Always, unless you need access to filters or the hood is obstructing light

Saved my 18-70. Camera fell off the tripod, about 4 feet onto a stone while shooting a waterfall. Lens hood broke but nothing happened to the lens, so yes, have it on all the time.
