The 28-80 is horrible, stay faaar away.

What is your budget? What do you need this lens to shoot?

i would like this lens to shoot general things, i know each lens is specialized, but i guess close ups and wildlife, but also scenic shots.. =P asking for too much from just one lens? budget would be in and around 100 bucks...

i came in to say tamron 28-75, but even used its going to run you between 250 and 300. with that budget, i'm not sure what i would recommend, if there is even anything.

thrifty fifty, you get a fast portrait lens, but nothing more than that...its prime at 50mm and will give you good sharp images. That would be only lens worth getting in your budget. Otherwise like spurious said...save your money until it gets around 400. You can get a decent lens for that much.

There really isn't much to decide from in that price range. If you need a lens now and don't have the option for just waiting and saving up for something better, I would suggest one of these 2 lenses.

    Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S (USM) LENS

Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens

These lenses aren't the greatest but they will do until you can afford something better. You just have to decide whether or not you want a little more on the wide end (18-55) or a little more reach (28-105).

The 50 1.8 is also a great lens for the price but restricted because of it's fixed focal length.

    Canon 18-55mm IS

it's around 170'ish on amazon.com and people have been raving about it (!) i'd pick it up and hell if you need to sell it, you'll get most of your money back or just take a small hit.

The 35mm is more than twice his budget. Of the lenses he could possibly get for about $100 the 50mm 1.8 is the only one that produces images better than a point and shoot.

Get the 50mm 1.8 now and save for the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, then get the Canon 70-200mm F4L, those three are pretty much the standard noob package of bang for the buck lenses.
