I'm looking to buy a handgun to mainly keep in the house for protection and take out every now and then to the range.
I've been looking through all of the manufacturers websites and I have no idea what I'm getting into. Where do I start? Any useful websites for beginners.
I'm in the military so I know the basics.
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is the differences between all of the models/manufacturers.
    Thanks

Usually, you need to take another shooter with you in order to rent a gun, or be a member of the range you're shooting @.

Go to a range that will let you rent guns. The range I go to has a 1 day wait period if you want to join and rent a gun the same day. If you have your own then it's no problem. Manufacturer is preference. The models depend on if you want a full size, compact, sub compact, caliber, what type of trigger action it has.
