Hey guys, finally decided to stop lurking and dive right in.

I've been reading a lot, just never got to post any pictures. Finally starting to get a hang of using my camera in manual...i think:x:. It's a nikon d50 with the kit lens and i also have the 55-200mm.

Anyway, picked up a flash the other day, and a 50mm 1.8
Decided to try and take a picture of my roommate and this is the only one that didnt have her hand waving in front of the camera..guess she finally gave up and decided to let me take one. Came out soft, not sure if i didn't focus right.

Heres the sb800 I picked up. Still need to use it.

And the obligatory self-portrait in your bathroom shot. Don't mind the dirty mirrors

Anyway, tear into me. Be harsh. These pics have no PP done to them, just straight from the camera. Thanks!

Back to reading "Understanding Exposure" :naughty:

Work on exposing them properly, composing them as more than snapshots and not cutting the top of your subject off.

You should have used the sb-800 in the shot of your ugly girlfriend to bring the foreground exposure (and her) up to ambient.

He said to be harsh. Exposure, lighting, composition, and overall interesting-ness needs some love.

Take 5,000 pictures, then come back to OT and post ones you think are good. It's clear you have just started.

lets not forget simple shit like wb.
reading that book won't benefit you as much at this point as actually shooting will. you want to read something? try the manual. other than that just shoot. when you think you've shot enough-shoot more.
