I'm thinking about attending his Starting Strength seminar in San Diego next month.

55 pounds in 11 weeks just doesn't seem all that healthy. I gained 30 pounds in about 8 months and it was a burden for me. I was much stronger but nowhere near the athletic shape I started with

it's the squat article in the "most recent updates" section on the top left of the page. speaks a lot about bar placement and it's affects on the mechanics of the squat.

no one said it was. He's pretty well known for his "GOMAD" diet that he sticks beginners on in which they drink a gallon of milk a day (G.O.M.A.D.) Usually whole milk too. It's a great way for beginners to get in a shitload of calories and gain a decent base quickly, but definitely not the healthiest diet out there. Most people only do it for a few months anyway. His focus is on strength, and healthy or not, he makes people strong.

If you're speaking specifically on the fat gained, he addresses it briefly in the article.

Fair enough, I was just saying I guess. My friend still drinks a quart of whole milk after a workout and I've given up telling him not to, there is no point.

saturated fat out the ass? Most calories coming from fat? you can drink 1% milk and get the same amount of protein, just 100 less calories. I'll sacrifice that to avoid all that saturated fat..

quart of whole milk = 32g of fat, 20g of sat. fat and 150mg of cholest.

Newsflash: Saturated fat is not bad for you. Your body needs fat. It needs cholesterol.

not at all :hsugh: a lot of guys start out squatting less than that properly.

You are supposed to start low with starting strength. If you were to start at your 5 rep max the first day, you would fail pretty soon. If you can't get X amount of weight up for 3x5 (a fail), then you have to drop 15 pounds which sucks.

The point of starting strength is to add 5 pounds EVERY time you go to the gym (and every lift in SS is a compound). All 3 days of the week you squat, so that's 12 days = 60 pounds to your squats in one month. That's why they recommend you start lower in the beginning (that and form is key since weight goes up so quickly)

Really? Then why do diets with limited carbs and high in saturated fat improve cholesterol levels, cure type II diabetes, and in general do wonders for your triglycerides?
