I'm traveling to North Carolina from Pennsylvania in the upcoming week to visit some family. Does anyone have experience with or know if it would be legal for me to purchase a rifle while I am there, assuming it not against the seller's store policy?

I tried looking around the net at N.C.'s laws, but only found the following that was relative.

"No state permit is required to purchase a rifle or shotgun."

"It is lawful for citizens of the State to purchase rifles and shotguns and ammunition in states contiguous to this State."

Long guns (rifles & shotguns) are ok for out of state residents to purchase in NC. Handguns are not.

I believe that it is the same here in TX as well.

Only for a FFL, I think.

It's the same way for SC.

Going by the letter of the law even FTF handgun transactions need a purchase permit... in reality, that rarely happens. I've only bought one pistol FTF and I have a CHP, so all I did was show it to them and have them record the number.

Thanks for the replies. My hope is to save some cash on a AR purchase.

There seems to be around a 300 dollar difference in the Eastern Pa. Gun market versus the Greater Ft. Bragg area.
