I took a networking class and "node" was a vertex in the graph of a network. What are you curious about?

Any device (end point) on a network?
Each processor(or processing system) in a multiprocessing device?
    Each item/element/attribute of an application?

Google maybe the best place to find your answer...

Yes, a node is generic for any device on a network. In IP networks, a node would be an ip address (router, server, workstation, printer, appliance, etc).
