I am in desperate need to find an amp or amps for my car. My 5 channel went out, so I am without a radio until I can find a replacement solution.

I need the usual 4 channels + sub. I haven't decided whether or not to go with 2 amps or a single 5 channel.

I have an eclipse cd8454 head unit, polk audio db3065 component in the front, polk audio db5510 mid range in the back, and an image dynamics idq 10" d4.

Considering my current speakers are middle of the line, would I hear any differences in sound if I were to compare a Polk Audio c400.4 (or any other 4 channel amp costing around $300-$400) amp to a high end arc audio 4150xxk amp (or anything else costing $500-650)? What about if I were to look at an Arc Audio 5150xxk?

I care a lot about sq and detail. Given what I currently have, should I go with:
    1) a high end 5 channel amp
    2) sub amp & midline 4 channel
    3) sub amp & high end 4 channel?
I have already found a sub amp, fry's had the polk c300.2 on sale for $150, doubt I will find anything else will come close for $150 and still be NIB from an authorized retailer. Options 1 and 2 cost around the same for me.

    Thanks in advance :bigthumb:

Any decent built 4 channel that fits your budget should work out just fine.

So what would be better?...a decent 5 channel, or a decent 4 channel & decent sub amp given that either option costs the same.

    Cost:
    arc audio 5 channel: $450
    polk c400.4 + polk c300.2 + extra wires, mounting materials, etc.: $300 + $150 + ~$50 = $500

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go with an eclipse amp (PA5532). I figured if their amps can be as good as their hu's, I should be set. Also, it is the cheapest reliable solution I have come across.

Not sure if you already bought your amp, but I can probably sell you my C400.4 if you're interested and the price is right. Eclipse's amps are not as good as their head units, but they certainly are not bad. Just like JL's speakers aren't as good as their amps, but they still aren't bad.
