I installed an alpine 9843, all the power wires are connected correctly, the system starts up just fine, but..no sound came out. the volume was high enough..balance was correct, connections were good..i dunno whats wrong. The speaker wires are just connected directly to the deck's right?

To test the actual cd deck, i hooked it up to an external speaker (not one of the car speakers) and it played.

The old cd deck in my car had played out of the speakers without hassle, i don't
understand what could be wrong? :hs: thanks

sounds like you have a short in one, or more of your speakers... newer decks will protect themselves.

    2 ways to check...
take an ohm meter an touch the black on ground of your wiring harnass, then take the red and touch each speaker lead both + & - sides. if it reads out anything there's a short in the wiring.

if it's not in the wiring...
fade the deck to the front, shut it off for a few... then play it. if there is still no sound, try the same faded to the back. if either way works, then you know the opposite end is where to look... then try the same method on the end that did not work, but with the balance.

sounds more like some crossed wiring to me. did you use a wiring harness adapter to your car's existing harness, or did you cut the old c=plug and hard-wire? when you have the deck on, are all teh lights working? Does it shut off when you turn up the volume? What kind of car?

I cut off all the little connectors, i had a feeling they were making really poor connections, so right now i have the speaker wires w/ the decks wires together in a twist on screw thing..

all the lights are working, there was a wire off the deck called 'illumination' and i didn't wire it up yet, but that wouldn't make a difference for the speakers would it?

the deck stays on at full volume and the car is a '94 probe gt

I take it you didn't get a vehicle adaptor harness?

It is not REQUIRED, but it is recommended to help avoid problems just like this. I am betting you have crosse wired here, since everything worked fine until you removed the old deck and cut those wires.

Did this have the Ford "premium sound system" before you took the deck out?

it's not required... but had you used one, I bet you wouldn't have had this issue. Very much worth the $5 that they cost. But if you've cut the wires, it's too late for that.

look under the passenger seat... most probe gt's are premium sound, and have a factory amp located there.

except that many times the factory amp will not work wiht an aftermarket deck.

depends on the car... in this case, if he bought the right harness he woulda been fine.
