Anyone here gone this route? And do you still get phone books? That would be my only concern is not getting a phone book anymore. Would you need to buy them? Or have a specific contract?

Take one from where you work. They probably get piles of them every year.

Cell phone voice quality still sucks, unfortunately.

not a good idea. cell phones do not guarantee service since there isnt a hardline connecting them.

I lived w/o a landline for 2 years... But I just got one again because I moved and I wanted to setup a fax machine. I am so glad I got one. It's nice having a # that people can call and you don't have to pick up if you're out, and then you get the benefits of multiple handsets, fax machine, modem, better voice quality, etc.

Well then this makes me wonder who is in charge of sending out the local phone books? I'm curious.

I've had a cell phone for over 10 years and technically never use my landline in the same amount of time, just have it for my dsl. Otherwise, it would've been disconnected a long time ago...
