Every time I've read a source about how to plan your diet, I've always read to avoid fat in your post workout meal. Does that really matter?

This is assuming that you've already predetermined your cals/fat/carbs/protein for the day, so if you have less fat after your workout you'll eat more of it at some other point during the day.

Unscientifically speaking, I'd assume it wouldn't matter. Is there a reason I am unaware of that it does?

Fat is supposed to slow down the protein absorbtion, in reality, it doesn't matter.
