how does it compare to the VG30ET? i have a chance to buy a 300zx with a DET in it already, but i'd like to know a little more about it

i understand the engine wasn't offered in the us, and i can't seem to find much info about them on the net, at least not much useful info

The VG30DET engine was most effective and popular in the Nissan 300ZR model, what we know as the 1984-1989 Nissan 300ZX here (z31 chassis) though it was also available in the Cedric, Gloria, Cima and Leopard chassis. It's a single turbo solution that was used from 1987 all the way up to 1995 in Japan and the predecessor for the VG30DETT, the engine that released in the 1990 300ZX Twin-Turbo.
The VG30DET is a 3.0 Liter, 24 Valve, DOHC, Quad-Cam, VTC equipped engine mated to a Single T3 (Nissan N1 Type) 4 Bolt Garrett Turbo running between 7.5 - 11.5psi. Generating 222 - 255hp and between 198 - 236lb ft depending on boost level, intake manifold, intercooler, etc.
Very popular swap into of course the US Z31 300zx and the Datsun 510. There have been other swaps as well, but those are the most popular.

why would you want to buy crappy car that looks like hell, has very very little power and handles like shit+ having a hard time getting the parts cause its not even made in the US, and on top of it all its going to be gay, slow and crappy no matter what you do to it.

    i dont understand you people.

D stands for Dual Overhead Cam...that is the main difference, aside from power difference.

besides being DOHC and a fuck load larger, theres not much different from the E and DE, its newer technology, but other than that id probably stay with the VG30ET and just build it.

i found that already, i was talking more along the line of modification potential...how much boost can be ran on stock internals? where can i find parts? tips and tricks for cheap(relatively speaking) performance?

    that kind of stuff

nissanforums and nicoclub don't have much about it

i happen to like the look of the Z31's, and yeah it doesn't have much power stock, but neither do the hondas you motherfuckers sackride all day, which are made in japan as well, and it's fun to do something different

it's the same displacement as the ET...

yeah, but it's already been swapped in there, and i know dealing with someone else's swap can be a pain in the ass, but i like the fact that it's something diffferent..

you can polish a terd all day, at the end of the day, its still just a terd.

4 grand you can build a built 350 small block chevy with 500 horse. basically drop that in anything with a turbo 400 and beat the piss out of it.

    /thread

or u can go with a 327 407 or my personal fav, just because its the first engine i ever built a 383. little mroe expensive tho

I think he was talking about external dimensions, not displacement.

I don't think that parts would be that hard to acquire.
