    Hi all,
Im leaving the country (Australia) in a few days for a holiday, and I just realised that my nipple piercing may set off metal detectors in the security area. Now I dont mind if this happens, but I really dont want my folks finding out that I have that pierced. Does anyone know if-

    1. It will set the thing off
    2. If my folks are allowed to go near that area

Any help on this will be awesome, I don't really have the time to go and buy a plastic one before I leave and I cant take it out for more than 30mins or the hole closes... not to mention it hurtsto do it and it bleeds.

I've never had any of my multiple piercings set off walk-in metal detectors; now, if they use a wand on you they may set it off. If they do, and it appears to be under your clothing, they'll take you to a separate room and you'll probably have to unrobe and prove it.

Unlikely it'll be a problem though. Are you a minor? Are your parents actually traveling with you or just dropping you off?

I would not worry about it. I have never set off any detector with my piercings.

Same, but I guess it depends on what you have for jewelry.

I wouldnt worry about it at all. I have walked through metal detectors with two orbitals, both nipples pierced, eyebrow, labret, and frenum. and didnt set it off at all.

im pretty shure Surgical Stainless Steel will not set off metal detectors, because otherwise they would have problems with people with, plates/screws/rods ect from bone breaks/accidents

all good jewerly should be SSS, you might have a problem with cheep jewlery thats not SSS but you shouldnt be wearing it if its not

If they're not travelling with you then how are they going to find out? The airport security's not going to call them and tattle on you.

Stainless steel and titanium are both non-ferromagnetic. It won't set off a metal detector. I work weekends at a bar and I've passed our wands over my piercings many times to try and see if it works and it never has. Even when I walk through a metal detector at a courthouse or some clubs here that have them it doesnt set them off.

As for your second question... you're 20yrs old. It's your body and you can do as you please. Your parents have no control over that.

But not to mention, you have piercings. So it can easily be removed and, most likely, it will slowly heal up.

I, on the other hand, have my back tattooed up. So, unless they (or me) are willing to spend hundreds of dollars, I am stuck with it. But then again, my mom found out about them recently and didnt talk to me for a good week

I have hematite balls in all my CBRs, and I've had that get picked up on occasion by a wand- but yeah, normal jewelery I wouldn't expect anything at all.

My nipple piercings got picked up by a wand when I went to a concert over the summer. They just waved me through though. I have 11 piercings, none have ever set off airport stuff or other metal detectors. Just that one time with the wand.

As for not wanting your parents to find out - I'm 19, dont live with them, and dont want mine knowing either. Thats not a place you want your parents knowing about, so I hear ya on that :)
