Yeah this is a noob question, but I am still going to ask it.

I have a nikon d40x body. I know that the AF motor must be in the lens itself. I am looking at this lens, but the nikon site does not have much info.

    http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=5&productNr=1963#

Will this work on my body? Will the AF work or will I just have to utilize manual focus only?:noes:

    Thanks for the halp!

D40 and D40x can only use lenses that have the words "AF-S" (for nikon lenses) and "HSM" (for Sigma lenses) in it. Those words indicate the internal focus motor.

So no, you can't AF that lense, only manual.

I wouldnt even use that lens in a crop body, its just not wide enough, youd end up backing into walls all the time.

how do u know if a lense is not wide enough on a crop body? Are all wide angle lenses not wide enough on a cropped body or just this one?

I have that lens and love it. It is not quite wide enough but is awesome for portraits.

well you can tell by the numbers, this lens says 35-70

35 refers to its widest points, and 70 referes to its longest point

for cameras with 1.5 crop (just about all nikons except the D3) 35 is simply not wide enugh, hell my main lens is a 28 and I still think its not wide enough, I would go with something around 18 or less..thats much more usable.

Too late!! I looked at the reviews and decided this would be a nice starting lens for myself before going to drop the serious dough on a uber lens. I think next is to get the d200. I might just wait the full year and get the d300 after a slight price drop and firmware upgrade.

Just a picture for reference. This is in macro mode. Not the best pic, but thought I would share my testing. This is the Bulgarian equivalent of a penny.
