Nikon always has a employee pricing list (for retail employees). I dunno how much of a drop Canon will have since they already released the double rebates.

Maybe you should look into the differences between the two besides price. What do you have right now? and what Don't you like about it?

i have nothing at the moment... this would be my first dslr purchase.

I am reading up on alot of stuff from dpreview, but it seems like there are so many biased folks out there.

D200/30d are going to be very hard for you to learn how to use for a first camera, Good luck.

Humungous Difference. Things like White Balance and Iso come more into effect with higher end DSLRS

for the advanced beginner I say Rebel XTI or D80

D80 out of the box is a better camera. Also more expensive though.

buy the best fucking camera you can the first time.

fuck this "buy an xt, learn, then buy a 30d". that is retarded. A monkey can run a fucking camera. exposure is easy, iso is easy.

:werd: My wife had almost no clue about cameras but I gave her teh 20D and she's taking a class and doing great. I'm still trying to convince her that ISO400 and no motion blur > ISO 100 and blur, but I think she's starting to get the idea. :)

  25. I'm a canon guy but I love the D200. Being a canon guy the Nikon is alittle ackward at first but it's operation is pretty smooth, the LCD is nice and clear and the picture quality is pretty consistant with what the file actually looks like. On my 30d I find that the photos appear bright on the LCD but on the computer the images are just right. This sucks for doing portraits and you show the customer the image and they always say "ew i look like a ghost!" then you have to explain that the LCD sucks. I even turn the brightness down.

Anyways also the whitebalance on the d200 is sweet, it shows the image ont he full screen and blinks the blown out parts. for the 30d the picture is really tiny and displayed in the upper right corner with other information.

there's a million cool things I like about the d200, oh another thing I'm jealous about is the SB800 + d200. I don't know if it is the same for all nikon flash and cameras but for the SB800 you just slap it on the d200 and turn the little switch and the flash is locked on!!!!!!!! For canon you have to turn the little circle thing and it always gets loose or you put it on too tight and you can't undo it without a fight.......

When I was shopping for cameras the Canon 30d was $1400 and the Nikon D200 was around $1800. So I went with the cheaper buy.

Both cameras are great in my opinion but the D200 > 30D for many reasons.

But Canon > Nikon IMO..... I don't see Nikon with any 16 megapixel cameras yet.. :wiggle:
