    Other than speculation or rumours, are there any confirmed updates on its features and when it will be released?

    Here are some expected features I found online (speculation):

    1. 14 bit A/D conversion (compared to 12 bit currently);
    2. Live view;
    3. the EXPEED image processor;
    4. self-cleaning sensor;
    5. 3″ LCD (up from 2.5″) with higher resolution; and/or
    6. 5 fps (up from 3);

    Nice. :cool:

    I like the idea of live view, just think they need a swiveling screen like the Canon G series for it to be useful.

    what do you use liveview for, I haven't used it for anything yet...

    only think i can see it being useful is to zoom in to check focus on a manual shot. or maybe night time.

    :confused:

    The purpose of Live View is to be able to compose a shot on a tripod without having to look through the viewfinder.

    Having a swivel screen would just make taking pictures of yourself more convenient. :mamoru:

    It would make taking hard to get angles a little easier. I think Pentax or Olympus is already doing it with one of their new dSLRs. I'm sure the rest will follow suit sooner or later.

    Highly doubtful, but Nikon does use Sony sensors, so I guess Sony = Nikon when it comes to the basics, but Nikon > Sony when it comes to evrything else from lenses, to following, to evrything else!

    I barely use it. I just think its a cool idea that they need to simplify a little more.

    I would use it to compose both macro and wide angle shots on/off a tripod without having to keep looking into the viewfinder. It's very useful.

    Anything Sony makes is obviously 11tybillion times better than the leading competitor...hence their ridiculous prices :mamoru:

    Being serious now, Nikon gives the sensor specs to Sony and they just manufacture them....but the sensor just captures what the lens sees...everything else is processed by the on-board image processor, in which case Nikon's Expeed > *

    Ok, I've just found out from a reliable source that Nikon plans to release the successor to the D80 around Summer 2009.

    The D80 has made a lot of sales for Nikon, it appears that's why they chose to hold off on releasing a successor.

    No offense, but do you realize that nearly everyday someone in some photography forum starts some rumor based on what they heard from a "reliable source"?

    Basically no one outside of a select few knows anything about new camera specs or release timeframes up until they're weeks or days from being released.

    why do you need a live view? i cant imagine a LCD would be easier to focus with.
