...or the D70 just feel "cheap?"

Went to good guys for lunch and saw a D70 sitting on the shelf. The instant I grabbed it, I wasn't too impressed with its fit and finish. So plasticky. This from the 2004 camera of the year? I'm sure it functions a lot better than it looks but man, I just can't picture myself enjoying photography as much with a 'toy' camera...especially for $1k a pop. They didn't have the Canon 20D for comparison so I'll have to look elsewhere for that.

The N80 feels so much more professional than the D70.
I'm actually looking at the Fuji S3 Pro since it's based on the N80 body.

    Anyway, just an observation.

I think the D70 feels solid as a rock (mine anyway). Feels just as sturdy as my friends 20D, if not more.

hell yeah, that was one of the selling points on it for me.. it feels sturdy. Especially next to a 300D, not sure about the 20D

it feels fine to me, although its finish does leave something to be desired but it does its job and is pretty solid

Well, neither is the N80. Pro cameras start at the F4, F5, F6 and the older N90 for film. D1H, D2H, D2X for digital.

But even the N70 I used feels better. I'd say the D70 is comparable to my old N65 as far as fit and finish.

The D70 is polycarb, it isn't a suprise that it doesn't feel as sturdy as magneseum bodies. When you cut costs out of manufacturing a product you can pass the savings on to the price. :)

Feel is very subjective. If he thinks it feels plasticy, nothing will change his mind. :)

The d70 works fine for me, I love it. You wanna talk toys? Go grab a digital rebel, that feels like a childs toy. The d70 is a solid camera with high quality equipment in it. Just wish Nikon glass wasn't so expensive. :(

The kit lense for the d70 is cheap though, and cheap feeling.

That's pretty surprising considering that the D70 and D100 were both N80 based like the S2 and S3 are. If anything, the composites used in the D70 are suprioer to the older N80 build plastics, and definitely superior to the N70 which is going to be much more like the digital rebel, which is by far worse than the D70.

The D70 doesn't feel like a pro body but still feels solid. The layout is familar like any other nikon DSLR like teh D2 series, but the camera is smaller and lighter -- no huge differences in how solid it feels.

I think mine feels very sturdy and professional. I also compare it to the Rebel so of course I will feel this way.

D70 is fine.. unless you actually are a pro photographer, you're just having a dick pulling contest by claiming the D70 feels "cheap". and if you are a pro photog, why the fuck do you care what OT thinks

I have the need to say that I have a 1DmkII in every post I make because I do have one.

:wtc: I don't post any pics though, because I don't take any... it lowers the camera's collector value :wtc:

Don't you wish they made a real wide angle lens for our 1.3x bodies ?
