I've done a ton of research on these two cameras during the past week, and I'm leaning slightly more on the side of the D60. One thing that upsets me is that it doesn't have Live view, but I'm kinda sure I can live without it.

I know a better comparison would be the D60 vs the 400D since they are in the same price range, but between those two, I would DEFINITELY go with the D60 over the 400D because of the D60s superiority in terms of features. But between the D60 and 450D? I'm not so sure.

Anyone have any experience between these two? Which should I get as a first entry level DSLR?

Also, on another note, should I buy the body only and spring for a 18-200 Sigma lens? I don't think I'll ever need that much zoom power, but people keep suggesting it and telling me that I need a good lens. I thought the 18-55 VR lens kit wth the D60 was pretty good.

I'd rock the 450d. Just me though.

you'll probably find nothing but people leaning toward one camp or the other here. I'm a nikon guy, so i'd obviously say the D60.

What is your price range exactly?

I'm going to be purchasing the XSi soon. After research I determined it to be my best bet for a first DSLR cam.

For people who say get the D60, why?

I never gave Nikon a shot for some reason, so I don't know anything about them.

I'm a nikon guy, and I say stay away from the d60.

Fuck all of their cameras made without a motor drive. What a shitty design choice.

But when you get it, you wouldn't be able to decide if you wanted it or you wanted to sell it and switch. :mamoru:

Wouldn't switch for a d60. Now a D300 or a D700 or D3 on the other hand. Nikon's consumer models aren't as good as canons IMO.

prices on refurb, or used 30D and 40D Canons have some down to within the same range of a new 450D. I think you will find better function from these.
