    CC has a Nikon D50 for $629 w/ the 18-55mm lens.

I have about $200 in gift cards, which is why I am going to CC to purchase the D50

good deal? (also, trying to to find a coupon on slickdeals to stack)

I am a noob to the DSLR world and am looking to upgrade my Nikon P&S

$300 more and you can get the better D80.

I was in the same situation not too long ago, think if the extra $300 for the body only D80 is really worth it. I chose the D50 and walked out the door with the kit lens for $630

The D80 is a great camera, no doubt, but it seems to be having a lot of problems with hot pixels. The D50 might give you less cropping room and smaller prints, but is that really worth $300+?

So you're saying you'd walk out the door with the D50 and kit lens for $429 or so?

Do it. Or buy the D50 body only and a different/better lens. I bought my D50 with a Tamron 18-200mm lens and I love it.
