buy an sc-17 (or sc-29) cord off the internets and straighten it out then shoot w/ your flash tethered to your camera but off to the side (9 ft cord after straightened) on a stand or w/e.

su-800 is too expensive if you are not looking to spend much and just want to mess around.

    ghetto fab.

How to straighten it - http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00DwXB

/edit- good call, cactus v2 should do the trick too. no ttl but it's all good.

not that i know of but i honestly haven't researched it much. i got a good deal on my sc-17 from a friend and i just use it on a bracket for event stuff and whatnot so no straightening for me as of now.

came here to post the cactus wizards.

They're cheap and reliable enough to learn on. Plus you can sync up tons of em together, and mix hot shoe flashes with studio lighting if you ever get a chance with that equipment.

I didn't do the mods. I was going to, but haven't encountered a situation where I needed too yet....

The one thing I can't stress enough is good batteries. These things eat batteries, and go into sleep mode pretty quick when they get low.
