I just got my SB-600 and was shooting a little setup for the OTAP contest and not 15-20 flashes later it stopped responding and the only indication that it wasn't completely borked was the lcd in the back had the faint neon glow on it.

I put some new batteries in and it seemed to work fine.

    My question:

How many shots can you normally get out of a freshly charged set of AA batteries? Also, what brand do you use and do you take the batteries out when you're not using the flash?

    Thanks!

Get some Eneloops and you should be good to go.

on the SB800, if I use the Energizer Digital batteries, they'll last me forever.

Did you shoot at full power? Mine went bad after shooting full power for about 50 shots.

If I use Eneloops I got could get thru about 600 images before they died. But that was using auto settings.

I was using full power. These are some older energizer rechargeables... so maybe they just don't hold a charge very well now. I'll have to hunt for some of those eneloops

I usually have Energizers in my 600 and I get hundereds of shots out of them using TTL:dunno:. That said, I always carry a spare set of 4 batteries in my bag:dunno:
