Price difference is roughly $ 500-600 as im sure you guys know already.

I really should wait until i sell a lens or the D90, but i need something to shoot an indoor horse show on the 14th.

Convince me one way or the other. I'd rent one for a month, but the money i would put towards rental is better suited going towards a purchase, since i know im not gonna wanna return it after using it :naughty:

It's only because is the instant answer. If you can afford it, I'd go for the 70-200. It's 10mm wider and has the added value of VR.

I don't know much about the 70-200, but with the quality of this shot on my D300 and 80-200 AF-S, I don't see how much sharper it could get for $600 more....

I have the 80-200. It works well for its intended purpose. I've never tried the 70-200 so i can't say for sure.

no doubt you speak the truth, but whether or not it is actually worth the 600 dollar difference to have VR....

for me, no its not, when I'm shooting in low light conditions my subject is moving (dance, ballet, stageplays), so VR isn't going to help me at all anyways, I'll still need to shoot at 1/250 to get a crisp picture, at 1250 VR does me no good at all.

    just my thoughts.

fair enough, but for someone who would rather have a 105 VR than a Tamron 90mm, knowing it'll be just as good... you sure do stick to that 80-200 like its have them red letters on it. ;)

While I love you, I think once you use and learn to love the 70-200 you'll thank me to no end. to no end, Joey. :o

haha I don't know that the tammy will be as good, IMO the pictures I've seen from the 105 are noticeably sharper than the tammy pictures.

i forget who posted them, maybe dan, but they were :yum: like no other.

there's no doubt I'd love the 70-200, but right now I'd rather have 2 lenses in my bag than just that one.

once I graduate it's a whole new ballgame :noes:

Side jobs out the ass, construction & commercial garage cleanout mainly.
I also have like 30k in snap-on tools that i amassed since i was 16 which im probably gonna start selling off.:eek3: I used to just spend all my money on tools and now its camera gear.

I also buy tools cheap on craigslist and flip them on eBay. I also haul cars/boats locally, sometimes as far as Boston. It helps to know lots of people in various industries.

I feel naked with less than $ 1k in my wallet

price is the only factor here. If you can afford the $1600, you get the 70-200. If you can only afford half of that, you get 3/4 of the lens for half price.

Oh, and  at 105mm being 'noticably' sharper...
