My 18-55 has a crack on the housing, while it still works, the focus seems to be a little off. I have been looking for a replacement, and I need one soon.

I have looked at the Tamron 35-105 2.8 or the Nikon 18-70.

The tamron is faster, and a little cheaper, but I loose out on the wide end. Right now, I am getting more wedding gigs, and losing on the wide end maybe a bad thing. Anyone have any more recommendations? I would like to stay under say $275 to replace this lens - new or used. My local camera store has the Tamron for $199 and the Nikon 18-70 for $250 (both used, grade 9 in quality)

Camera is a D50, but not too far down the road is an upgrade to D80 or D200.

You can get them from local retailers for 750 no problem, I've ordered 3 and they have never taken over 2 weeks. Paid 816 out the door.

I just don't have that type of coin to drop on a lens at the moment. I really can't justify it currently. A camera store locally has the 18-70 for 250 bucks, but it doesn't have the hood and he wouldn't budge $10 bucks to cover the price of the lens - so I walked out...I know that they go cheaper, around 200 -225 online...

Nein. I have the 55-200 too much overlap - and the same build as my 18-55. :hs:

    18-70, I wouldn't consider buying a non-nikon lens.
