    Paging turbodude, paging turbodude...

So a friend from HS got in touch with me and wants to do a 15 year HS reunion in July. He's a club promoter in the Austin area and he saw my work and site, then decided to ask if I could take pics at the event. 2 days into signing up and we have 40+ people already dedicated they're going. I'll providing CDs of the event to the people that want to buy them, so I want to get the best pics and best exposures. I love turbodude's club shots, just curious about pointers, flash settings, camera settings, etc.

Any tips are always appreciated! :big grin:

Not spending money on something I'm going to use a couple of times! Looking to see if I need a diffuser, a bounce card, etc.

club photography isn't as hard as people make it out to be. If it's an event where you're going to be capturing guests hanging out together and want the club lighting to show through just use an external flash on hot shoe, undiffused w/ bounce card and a slow shutter. If you'll be using FF, use a standard zoom. If you'll be using crop, use a wide zoom. You may not have a whole lot of room or you'll have plenty, depends on the venue.

The conditions can and will likely be much different than you expect so the best thing to do is show up early and get an idea of what kinds of shots are possible and what they may want and do some testing. I usually snap off about 20-30 shots when I shop up trying to get an idea of shutter/flash sync ideal for most parts of the club.

Whats the benefit of the bounce card vs something like a sto-fen omni diffuser?

exactly...it doesn't concentrate the light where you need it. Unless you want to run about -2 or -3ev on the flash, bouncing it would work best.
