I keep my paperwork inside a small fireproof safe, that is placed inside my gun safe. I don't know of many people who store NFA paper work etc. in safety deposit boxes.

And I have a strong feeling that the report is probably a little over-dramatic and not quite a blanket statement regarding safety deposit boxes, or you would have heard about it quite a while ago.
I keep my important paperwork at the court house
Cliffs are basically they can call your shit "abandoned" after 3 years even if you're still paying. The law allows them to auction your shit off. This has/is happening on occasion. Now this is not necessarily happening en-mass however it's important to be aware of because of the importance of things you store in a safety deposit box. Visit your safety deposit box once a year.
People still use safety deposit boxes?
The last person I knew who used one was my grandmother and that was back in the 80s.
As long as I get a new NFA item every year I'll be delivering the original to my safety deposit box. I see no problems.
This seems like the best plan.
