So I am getting ready to put in my preferences for duty assignments but am limited to the following locations/units based on my new job and other requirements

What would be the best family environment and career enhancing location (have a wife and step daughter)

    1. 1st Cav Division, Ft Hood
    2. 62 or 67 Signal Bn, Ft Hood
    3. 82nd Abn Div, Ft Bragg
    4. 10th Mtn Div, Ft Drum
    5. 51st Sig Bn, Ft Lewis
    6. 1st ID, Ft Riley

Can anyone give me insight on these places? pros/cons?

Any one of those places would be good. That's a damn good list to pick from.

I am leaning towards 82nd, i just dont know if I can deal with living in North Carolina or if I am hooah enough for that place :o

i would be able to get my ranger tab and jump out of planes while i am still young

but then again i could end up a broken mess

I would stay away from the Cav honestly

as far as career goes, once you're in Cav it's near impossible to get out.

As far as family goes, the general concensus is that they don't care about family until you miss a child support payments or something that you fuck up on then they nail you.

If you're picking by your career, Fort Bragg is the clear choice I think.

i hear the fat cows at drum are 2nd to none AND they are not uppity like the Benning Cows :bigthumb:

it would be pretty fun to be stationed near an OTer that has known me since I joined :bigthumb:

are you guys deploying anytime soon?

The household 6 didnt like the idea of border of canada (despite her family being New Yorkers and Rhode Islanders)

this would prob be a question for ako but is the 82nd division headquarters deployed yet? I will be a part of G6

if not when do they go. I want to get my timing down so I don't come on the tail end of another deployment....i want the full experience :hs:

she grew up in kennesaw and decatur ga so she likes the 'city living'. upstate ny is apparently too country for her. ironically though she has said many good things about nc (i just don't like living in the south but can manage)

isnt that the most requested posting in the army?

im thinking of either putting that for 1 or 2 when i get to choose, probably go jackson over that then after those two maybe carson

then ft sill, benning, or campbell

but thats a ways away, but i figure i ll still be a single REMF :o

So when I go to my captains course, how will duty station be determined afterwards? Is there a ranking? Do I get a say? Do I see whats available and then choose?
