I was looking at buying the Dell 2400 Desktop, Compaq SR1500NX or building a computer. My primmary use is going to be MP3 and internet. I am looking at staying at or below $400. Which would be the best for my money?

    Compaq
    2.0Ghz Amd
    256 RAM
    80 GB
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
    $390

    Dell
    2.6Ghz Celeron
    256 RAM
    80 GB
    CD-RW
    $380

Also which is better AMD or Celeron?

when you say 2.0 AMD are you referring to the 3300+ Sempron processor? If so that would be the better buy.

256 ram isnt going to be enough. im using over 400 right now, and im not doing anything. windows needs that much to keep its own shit in line. if you want to do something with the computer, go to 512. if you want to do anything big (which you dont seem to) go to 1024

256 will work for mp3 and internet...

It'll run a web browser and mp3 software just fine...

Windows has a browser and mp3 software. So if 256 can run windows it can run what he's looking for? No?

If you want to step up to any form of gaming or photo editing I'd go up to 512. 256 is the bare minimum to run on an xp system and should only be used if you're going to be doing the bare minimum.

I would go with the AMD over the Celeron. Just buy another stick of 512 later on if you decide you need it.

(great place for RAM or any computer parts = www.newegg.com)
