I have a new laptop and a 2nd computer and want to know how to partition my HD to install Linux so I can practice with it.

I tried looking on google but nothing is specific on what you have to really do. :wtc:

Do you want it to be dual boot, or just to have a dedicated machine?

Install Windows on the machine first, using no more than 1/2 the hdd (how to do this should be pretty self explanitory during install). After Windows is installed on the first partition, then install linux, creating at least one more partition in the unused space (I use 3 partitions just for linux: system, /home, and swap). Partitioning in linux isn't any harder than in Windows, though you tend to have more options. Finish installing linux and towards the end, it will want to install the lilo or grub boot-loader which will detect your Windows install and give you the choice on startup.
