I am a newb when it comes to guns and am looking for some advice. I tend to troll around and read what you guys post and have learned a lot... once I sorted through the BS. :)

I am going to be buying my first gun in the new year and have narrowed my choices after a few visits to the range, for right now. I still have to get some range time with one choice to see if I like it (the range I use did not have one to rent nor do my friends own one). I will be going to the gun show this weekend with my fiancee (not intending to buy yet) and am looking for some advice on what to look for and what to avoid.

Any advice would be great... and any BS comments as well.

gun shows are genenrally junk for guns. Good more mags and beef jerky.

Look out for a glock 19 or 17 in the low 400's. Like $425 for a 3rd generation with finger grooves and light railk.

alternatively CZ 75sa, CZ PO1, or CZ SPO1 at same price point.

Rifles AR's or AK's. A3 flat top AR's with low profile gas blocks and 16" barrels @ 700 - 1000 depending on brand. AK's that accept standard AK mags from 300 - 600 depending on brand.

    Rem 870 pump from 300 or less w/ 18" -21" barrels.

Right now gun shows are generally going to be a bad place to pick any decent deals... depending on what you're looking for of course.

I laughed... cause it's true.

Just don't listen to anyone pressuring you to buy a gun right away "because the democrats are going to take them away soon".

I am not looking to buy until the new year. I just moved into my new home and have a bunch of stuff to buy for that.

Thanks for the advice so far... and I am glad I like jerky

If you aren't keen on guns, and especially gun prices; stay away from a gun show if you are trying to actually buy a firearm.

You will be stepping into a sea of sharks; and you will get fucked.

i think it's because everyone who likes jerky, already makes their own deer jerky.

That is the vibe I have been getting and why I am not going with the intent to buy, at least not this month. Maybe the next show in Jan. or Feb. :)
