If the ads made it possible for the OS to be cheaper then I wouldn't mind it. I'm betting it wont be cheap though.

It'd want to be a pro edition @ $10-20 at most for me to consider selling my soul like that.

Of course they can do that. They control the horizontal and the vertical. They can zoom in or out to infinity.

If Vista is released like this, I give the computing community a week before they've hacked it and posted an ad-removing kit online.

    Read the updates.

Microsoft is including a "Welcome Center" for new owners of Windows Vista PCs. The OEM-Modifiable screen displays services such as Antiviral software and provides a starting point for new users. (earier reports that the 'welcome screen' would display ads on boot are false)

Cliffs: Any ads, which would be chosen by the PC manufacturer, not Microsoft, would only be displayed in the Welcome Center on the FIRST boot of the OS.

So the Welcome Center is a screen that appears after vista is first installed? Microsoft has been doing that since windows 98.

Yes. This only shows up after the initial bootup, just like before. This is just more idiots spouting more BS about Vista.

Yep, just first boot. Probably to say, "here's a coupon for Microsoft Office."

I don't understand why minor news about Microsoft becomes exagerrated! They release a product, just don't buy it if you don't like it. No need to complain. Do you complain about other car companies making cars that you don't prefer?
