The one on the right is the Inova X1 which is a single AA (came with a Duracell Ultra :bigthumb: ) and LED lamp, and on the left is the Surefire G2 which uses two size 123A lithium batteries and a Xenon lamp.

I like the beam on that Inova, Im planning on a G2 for xmas, to replace my E2, but maybe i need to track down a Inova too. Standard, cheap batteries is quite attractive.

The xenon lights are nice, but do they ever go through batteries. I kinda like the multiple LED lights

I too have the Surefire G2 Nitrolon, it is the brightest flashlight I own, and I love it.

Mine is white. Unless you have a specific reason for another color, it's the most practical, IMO. i would like to get a blue LED sometime though, as it highlights blood in dark conditions very well.

It actually looks bluish around the edges (from the lense) and this tricks your eyes into thinking the whole beam is blue, but i've found it's a pretty neutral white in the center.

I was reading an old issue or american hunter and they tested blood trailing with a blue light (surefire G2 IIRC) and weren't really impressed, they said the blood has to be really fresh. How is that inova anyway? Looks nice, I'd sorta like to pick one up for shits and giggles.

blue makes anything red show up dark like that. also, blue wavelengths don't go as far as the other wavelengths in darkness, so you don't alert others to your location as easily. which is why i'll be getting a blue filtercap for my M962.

Yes about the dried blood, but when i'm looking for it, it is usually pretty fresh. ;) Keep in mind though, that while it is less visible than white light, the human eye is attracted to blue more than any other color (-why in Europe, police, fire and EMS all use blue lights) and it DOES still damage your night vision. If maintaining night eyes is critical, red is still the color of choice.

Both items were very reasonably priced ($110 and $17, iirc) from www.tadgear.com, disclaimer that by ordering you accept responsibility for complying with local laws regarding automatic knives.

Btw, 7, i love the X1. i have the G2 on my leg bag and the X1 stays in my pocket. So even on the little BS calls i don't feel like grabbing my bag, i still have decent, if not "serious" light and it's focused unlike the little button style LEDs. And it uses AA batteries which i get for free out the wazoo, so that's a bonus too. :x:

I have a Surefire fetish myself. I have two G2's, a Z2 Combat, a M900a on my AR, and a SF618FA forend on the way for my new 870. Yeah, they may cost a lot, but they are a helluva lot better than a Maglight...

You guys don't know how lucky you are, that X1 light costs $75 Australian dollars, which is about US$55.00
