So I finally did it. D700 got here this morning. Ran right out and grabbed a used 28-70 2.8

    taken with my trusty D300

And just a couple quick snaps with the combo, as I know it is required. I'll post more up once I shoot something interesting. Right now I need to go cater to the wife (kiss her ass for not killing me for buying this)

I'll try to post something at least slightly interesting later. Until then I could use some tips on recommended settings on this cam... It is still set pretty much as it came out of the box.

So far my initial impression is I LOVE IT... On the down side... Ive been having a hard time nailing razor sharp images... hopefully Im the problem and maybe Ive just got some things to get used to. On my d300 I was getting probably 80% perfect sharp images... So far im getting maybe 45-50% could be the dof though, messing with my head combined with my shaky hands... also most of the images Ive taken have been of my son, and he doesnt move slowly. Either way I'll figure it out.

The lens itself seems a little soft wide open, but Im still loving it.

Id say this is my favorite so far... even though I was hoping for less blow out on his face.

So Ive got a couple questions.

    1. How sharp do you 28-70 owners find it when wide open? Where is its "sweet spot"? Can you post a few shots you've taken wide open that will show me how sharp it is/isn't

    2. So far Ive turned off all noise reduction... is this recommended? Any settings on the d700 I should turn on or off as a default? Like adr for example. Do you use it?

A sweet setting I have on mine is on of the function buttons shuts off my flash. So if I'm shooting an event and I wanna shoot ambient real quick, hold the button, it doesn't allow the flash to fire and when I want the flash back I release it.

The other button I have as LV, in case I need to shoot something overhead or on the ground and it's filthy down there. Click, LV, click again to shut off.

    ^^ LV from overhead.

I haven't touched my beast in months. The last 2 wedding were shot with the 14-24, 70-200, and the 50mm. I might even be willing to trade it for a mint 85 1.4 here soon and start moving to a lot more primes. 35 f2, 50 1.4G, 85 1.4, and 135 f2 down the road. The 14-24 is quickly becoming my favorite lens of the bunch with the 70-200 a close behind.
