I am doing a pretty simple video project for my drawing final. I have some skating videos but what I want to do is add in my own animation during certain points in the video. Im going to hand draw the stills since I don't have my mouse or tablet with me to use on photoshop.

I plan on capturing each frame I want to draw and print it out and then draw it out. How should I go about inserting those back in? Can I just scan them? I need to make sure the resolution is on the same page as the original video and I need to keep it level. Please help. If you're still having trouble understanding what I am asking for please let me know so I can try to explain it better.

Also, do you think imovie would be a decent enough program to do what I need done on or should I look for something else?

A hastily reply is appreciated. [IMG]

    Thanks!

So you will be printing out single frames and then drawing on them and then reimporting them?

I would just use the best printer you can and scan them in at high settings.

Imovie should be fine for then reimporting the single frames and putting them together to look smooth

I figured I could cut out any background that has lost it's quality. But do you think this is the best method to go with? My resources are pretty low though.

Just start doing it, its pretty foolproof and in the end if your drawings are good it will look fine worst case scenario is you email me all of the images and I make it into a short movie clip and send that back to you. Imovie should work fine though

The HD videos I have are mp4 format. In the info it says it is of mpeg-4 kind though. You can't import mp4 files into imovie. I downloaded some program to convert it to mpeg4 which is what imovie easily imports but they dont seem to convert. :dunno:

Ugh well I got it to work but it only converts the first half of the video since it is a trial. :o

:mamoru: imovie seems like it can do what i need. I can insert still frames pretty easily it looks like but deleting the corresponding frame might be a pain. But someone was telling me there are plug-ins that do exactly what I am trying to do. Im still waiting for a response from him. :x:

I've never worked with video editing, but if there's a way to make that trial version not so trial, i might be able to help... see if someone responds with a better software suggestion though.

These 3rd party apps are a bitch to find serial keys for. :o The funny thing though is even when I convert them to mpeg4 they don't change file extension but if I dont use the converter they won't import into imovie.

Right now I am going ahead and drawing the still frames I need. I'm using VLC to capture the images but what is making it tough when I go frame by frame it won't up until I hit play so I actually don't get the frame I need. I can't capture a screen shot in quicktime since I dont have pro.

Do you have photoshop? There is a way to open a film strip in photoshop. I did it to rotoscope a lightsaber into my hands once

Same sort of thing as working with a .gif... you just have to make sure your "Animation" window is open, and you can import multiple images as frames within the same sequence. Not sure how you'd throw it all together and then re-export them as individual frames to be edited back in though.

Well I am almost done drawing the frames. But there is another bump in the road. I am going to need a digital copy of these drawings. Does kinkos do that? or staples?
