I am looking to by a Springfield 1911 to take to the range and my ranch. Specifically I want a black model with the wood grips that I would later upgrad to a pair of customs. I have seen this model go online for about $500. Should dealers be around that price range on a basic Springfield 1911?

Basic SA 1911 would be the GI model which is what I have, works great taking to the range and can be had for $400ish new.

    Pic with $20 grips

Around here you're going to pay $500 for one. The cheapest new one I've seen in the last 6 months was at Sportsman's Warehouse for $480. That was a commander model. I did see a used one that was in really good shape (very minor wear and maybe 100 rounds fired) for $400. It came with three mags and an extra set of grips, too. The deals are out there but you have to look for them.

Not sure what other gun shops up that way have them in stock. But Sportsman's Warehouse on 82nd usually has one or 2 in stock for a good price.
*edit* oops, got your name mixed up with the other Oregon guy. Not sure where you're from, but if you PM me your general vacinity I can hopefully recommend a decent gunshop.

i see those for about 530 brand new in stores so probably about 500 shipped to you. ever think about a rock island?

can be had for a lot cheaper, basically the same look and feel and operation. frees up some money for ammo or for upgrades.

    some good reviews too

FWIW I love my RIA as well. But I think I've seen those Springer's for $399 locally IIRC. My RIA was $309 out the door.

The RIA deal was from a dealer in Cottage Grove. Guns 4 Fun is the business name, I can dig up the contact info if you'd like. But this was almost 2 years ago.
As to the Milspecs check out Sportsman's Warehouse on 82nd, I'm pretty sure they used to have them for $399. Or if you're further south, Philomath Gun shop next to Corvallis is a great place.

A few weeks ago I went into Sportsman's Warehouse to find out how much their SA 1911 GIs cost and they told me $420. They just raised their prices. They seem to be getting expensive everywhere :wtc:.
