What are your opinions on the Olympus E500 8.0mp and the Nikon D50 6.1mp?

These are both in my price range.

The E500 comes with 2 lenses. The D50 comes with one.

The E500 has only USB 1.1, while the D50 has USB 2.0.

I've only had point and shoot cameras, no SLRs so this will be my first one.

Olympus sucks, stay away.....horrible noise, more difficult to find extra lenses, the list goes on

    Nikon or Canon.....

    Whats your price range?

Under $800 but like the $650 price of the Nikon D50.

D40 has no command screen on top... ust rear LCD. D40 is a much simplified D50 IMO.

The D40 is newer than the D50, and only supports AF-S lenses.

I hear the Olympus isn't bad, but the lenses are limited. Decide on if that's a factor for you. Don't get too caught up on all the noise fanboys.... it's not usually a big issue (z0Mg!! The D200 suckz0rZ because cAnon's make less nOises!!! :noes:)

My Pentax K100D just came in today, and I like it a lot. Good image quality, high-ISO noise on par with the D50, and Shake Reduction for less than $600 - plus a $50 rebate.

The E500 is a nice low end camera. I'd take it over a D50.
