ok so i'm aware of most of the classics and i'm a fan of graphic novels.

was just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for something to read from the very beginning? as i'm not too sure where to begin.

i'm into alan moore and the frank miller stuff if that's anything to go by, but i've only ever really read manga and aforementioned graphic novels, so any help would be cool.

    cheers.

manga is lame anyway, i'd recomend getting into the Ultimate Marvel comics, its much easier for newbs like yourself to get into being that theres a whole hell of a lot less backstory to catch up on. plus in my opinion its fucking better all around

Frank Miller sort of fell off over the last few years. His latest foray into writing is All-Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder and saying it is bad is an understatement.

Unless you are interested in backstory I'd stick with miniseries. There are lots of great ones. If you like Alan Moore you'll prob like Grant Morrison, the following are some of his best mini-series:
    1) Invisibles
    2) WE3
    3) The Filth

If you like older Miller you'll like Ed Brubaker, check out the following of his stuff. He doesn't really do mini-series, more or less comes into a flagging series and makes it interesting again. Check out his following runs:
    1) Catwoman
    2) Daredevil
    3) Iron Fist

They all encompass the gritty that Miller used to be good at writing.

i hate making recommendations because i just want to tell you what i like. take a week off work and dive into wikipedia.

just a fair warning, wiki sucked a few months of my life in reguards to finding new reading material when i came back into comics.

Transmetropolitan, they're re-releasing all of the trade paperback volumes here soon I believe, and it definitely worth a read.

Manga is good, you just gotta read the right ones just like comics.

Invincible is a great also imo.
