Hey guys, I recently bought my first AR, it's a 5.56 M4. I want some decent practice ammo that won't break the bank. I'm a beginner so it doesn't have to be the BEST. Good will do, as long as it doesn't tear up my gun or anything.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

No offense, but who buys an AR without having a clue what to do with it?

Ok, thanks. Wolf seems to get some pretty good reviews and seems to be the cheapest as well, so I'll probably go with that.
    55gr > 62gr?

I've always thought that since I dropped $1,200 on my rifle, why cheap out on ammo? I make it a point to feed my rifle XM193, IMI, or TAP.

do NOT get wolf if it is a decent rifle. A LEO friend of mine saw someone's AR destroy the bolt entirely because the wolf didn't have a flash hole drilled for the primer, so the only place for the detonation of the primer to go was out through the bolt.

Man, I've heard some really mixed stuff about Wolf while reading around. Surprisingly, I've heard some good stuff about the Remington .223 that WalMart carries, so I may check that out as well. This is just really for me to get familiar with the rifle, have some fun, weaksauce target shooting etc. I don't need the BEST in accuracy, I just don't want to tear up my gun or my bank account :)

stick with remington or winchester ammo and you'll never have a problem with plinking IMHO

and if you didn't want to tear up your bank account, you should have gotten a .22LR or 5.45x39

Don't buy wolf. I always shoot American Eagle which is somewhat cheap ($5.99/20). If there is a local gun show go buy ammo from MiWall, you can get 1k rounds for under $300. And make sure you check with your local range what type of ammo they accept, a lot of ranges in CA do not allow metal or bimetal ammo.

all of my AR's have seen only Q3131/A, XM193, M855.

That's not what I wanted to hear, but I'm glad I heard it, I'll shop around for something else.

seriously get 55gr Remington or federal or winchester. you can get nicer stuff, but those companies would be the cut off for me :dunno:

i have 400 rounds of the green and white box remington, and theres another 700 rounds of UMC in the mail

its probably some of the best for plinking. some people swear by wolf but i've heard too many stories about their .223 and .308 ammo to stay away.
