I know its not the best of safes/cabinates, but its a temporary thing until im done with school and can get a real safe.

p.s. i've changed the organization of the top shelf since this photo was taken

well, i have a wood set of poice furnature i might put on, but other than that and maybe a side saddle (reciever mounted) and sling it's staying stock.

If you can, I'd suggest a better hiding spot than your closet. And if you haven't, bolt it down, and I'm not talking 2inch drywall screws. Otherwise you're just making it more convenient for thieves to get to.

But if you're not worried about that and just worried about the homestead keeping their sticky fingers off of them you're fine. I'd still suggest getting it anchored in somehow.

I learned this the hard way. 11 years ago, in 1996, I had my entire safe taken, that was exactly like that. I just recovered one of the guns taken this year. The rest, including my birth Certificate is all gone.

i know its not a fool proof means of security, but its better than the alternative (rifles stacked up in the corner).

it came with 2" screws but i plan on getting something bigger from home depot and drilling into the studs :dunno:

thanks for the suggestions, though

I'd use 3 or 4" lag bolts with a large washer on them. 6 in the back (3 in 2 studs, assuming this is wider than 16 inches) and then 4x3" concrete screws with more washers on them (or more lag bolts if you're going into a joist instead of concrete).

i believe its 17", so i *might* be able to squeeze it to 2 studs. worst comes to worst i could secure something to the back of the cabinate, then secure that to the wall :dunno:

    i'll investigate it this weekend.

That's a good point, but I would think that would be easier to get out (If you used say a 2x4 to go across). If you do something like that, I'd get like a 4' chunk of 2" wide steel that's 1/4 inch thick, cut that into 3 16" chunks, then bolt it into the wall. again in that case you could still unbolt the steel, so it may not be anygood. Now I'm just thinking out loud.

If the safe is 17" wide then it should be at least 16" on the inside, which should probably be ok to squeeze onto 2 studs.

:werd: i *think* i notices holes in the back that are meant to secure it, i'll take a look later

There are no rules in photography.

Well there are, but you are a faggot if you base your whole thing off them.
