New PR and another reason why old people are useless

    It was about 10:30pm, the gym was nice and dead, just like I like it. I just finished doing 225lbs X 10 reps on the BB flat bench. I thought to myself, what the hell instead of doing my normal 275lbs let me throw 295lbs on there and see if I can get a rep out. I look around the gym, no one working chest at all, except for this old guy and he has a 10lb and a 5lb weight on the bar for a whopping total of 70lbs. I pace around for a couple minutes hoping someone will wander by to give me a quick spot, no luck. I walk over to the old guy and ask him "Hey man, can you give me a spot real quick?" He looks at me with a dumb look on his face and replies "Uhhhh, duhhhh, ummm...I GUESS so" Then he takes a look over at the bar "I don't know" I reply "What's a matter? Your arm hurt or something??" He says "Yeah, thats it, get someone else" Then he takes off without reracking his weights to work tri's. Me----->:squint:

    So I go over and ask some 19yr old kid working back and he says "Sure, no prob" I grab the bar and do 2 clean reps and he helps me with the 3rd one. About 15 seconds later he was back to his workout.

    pretty obvious he knew if you failed on a rep he wouldnt be able to help


    but PRs are always a good feeling... you go for a 1RM?

    But I do like how you only had him help you with 1 rep. I spotted some guy a few sets this past Monday. He was working w/ 295 and could get the first rep on a set of 3 and then he was done. I basically lifted the 2nd and 3rd rep. I figured he was done when he took the quarter and the 10 off, but then he puts on another plate. I fucking deadlifted all 3 of those reps off his chest

    No, didn't try for my 1 rep max, I figure i'll do that next chest day when I can get a decent spotter. The guy who did spot me barely had to help me on the 3rd rep, he just had 2 fingers under the bar on each side.

    My deadlifting still sucks, well compared to you guys. I did 275lbs for three reps the other day then my grip gave out.

    Grip gave out with an alternating grip? Do you ever try to just do the first few sets of DL with double overhand (until it fails)? Also after doing pull ups just hang onto the bar as long as you can until your grip fails. Atleast these two things are what I've been doing to mainly help build my grip back up after injuring my wrist.

    uhhh dude you're pretty lucky that the old dude declined. if he was that weak... he many not have been able to help you if you needed it.

    Thanks for the tip, I never tried double overhand before. I think it might feel weird, but i'll give er a try

    There are these two old fucking douchebag faggots in my gym I see every day, they talk for about 5 minutes in between each set and jack around like morons.

    No wonder I've seen them for 2 years and they look exactly the same.
