Building one of my buddies a new PC. My only real questions are
-is PC6400 a good choice for that cpu?
-I don't really know squat about video cards. He doesn't play games or anything but wants to be able to easily hook up to his TV, I just picked a cheap one w/ hdmi.

    Current cart @ tigerdirect
    • XFX MG-63Mi-7159 Motherboard CPU Bundle - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor 2.66GHz OEM $264.99 (after rebate)
    • Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM $64.99
    • Masscool 8W553 / Socket 775 / Aluminum / CPU Cooling Fan $24.99
    • Visiontek Radeon HD 2400 Pro Video Card - 256MB DDR2, PCI Express, (Dual Link) DVI, VGA, HDMI, Video Card $49.99
    • Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) $64.99
    • Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB and Audio Ports and 450-Watt Power Supply $49.99
    • Acer P221Wd 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor Black (Refurbished) - 5ms, 1680x1050 (WSXGA+), D-Sub, DVI (HDCP), Black $139.97

Any suggestions? :dunno: (I'm already $50 over budget btw)

    Thanks

    ram is fine
stock fsb (1066MHz), you only need DDR2-533 (PC2-4200) to have cpu and ram in sync
anything lower than that is a bottleneck
anything higher is just overhead (usually used for overclocking)

the thing is,... PC2-4200, PC2-5400, and PC2-6400 prices are about the same.
some PC2-6400 are even cheaper because of rebates and sales like that corsair you got there ($64.99, $34.99 after rebates).

if your friend doesn't game and just want to hook it up to a tv,... ditch the Visiontek Radeon vid card.
that XFX motherboard has GeForce 7150 integrated graphics, and with HDMI already. that alone should be fine for budget HTPCs.

why tigerdirect btw? try newegg if you can find something cheaper.
