subj/new Navy Working Uniform And Service Uniform Concepts Approved// Gentext/remarks/
1.after Many Months Of Hard Work By Task Force Uniform, Phase One Is Complete. The Cno Has Decided On A Working Uniform For Sailors, A Single Year-round Service Uniform For Sailors
E-6 And Below, And The Elimination Of All Tropical Uniforms.
    2. These Decisions Were Based On A Study That Included Fleet-wide Surveys, Wear Tests By Sailor Participants And The Development Of A Business Case Analysis. Here Is What Cno Has Approved:
    A. The Production Of A Single Navy Working Uniform For Wear By All Sailors E-1 To O-10 -- At Sea And Ashore And Across All Communities.
This Bdu-style Uniform Will Feature Three Variants, All In A Multi-color Digital Print Pattern, Predominately Blue, With Some Gray, For Shipboard And Normal Navy Use, Jungle/woodland Camouflage, And Desert Camouflage.
    1. It Will Include An Eight-point Soft Cover And Black Smooth Leather Boots. Black Suede No-shine Boots Will Be Authorized For Optional Wear By Those Assigned To Non-shipboard Duty.
    2. It Will Replace: Working Khaki, Winter Working Blue, Aviation Green, Utilities And All Existing Desert And Woodland Camouflage Utilities. It Will Delete The Wool Pullover Sweater, Khaki And Utility Jackets.
    3. Coveralls May Continue To Be Worn For Shipboard 'dirty'
    Work Only.
    B. The Production Of A Single Year-round Service Uniform For Sailors E-6 And Below.
    1. This Uniform Features A Short-sleeve Khaki Shirt Or Overblouse, And Black Trousers With Optional Skirt.
    2. Silver Anodized Metal Rank Insignia For Petty Officers Will Be Worn On Shirt And Blouse Collars.
    3. It Will Include The Wear Of The Black Eisenhower-style Jacket With A Knit Stand-up Collar And Epaulets, Upon Which Petty Officers Will Wear Large Silver Anodized Metal Rank Insignia.
    4. It Will Replace: Enlisted Summer White And Winter Blue.
    C. The Elimination Of All Tropical Uniforms.
    3. The Uniforms Will Be Ready For Widespread Use In Approximately
18-24 Months, By The Fall Of 2007. Still To Be Completed Are The Appropriate Wear Guidelines, Amended Uniform Regulations, And Development Of A Strategy To Eliminate From The System Not Only The Tropical Uniforms, But Also The Existing Uniforms These Two Replace.
    4. These Are Good Uniforms. Durability, Safety, Ease Of Wear And Cleaning Were All Factors That Weighed Heavily In Making The Decision As Did The Survey Data And The Opinions Of Wear Testers.
More Than 70% Of Wear Test Participants Favored The Digital Blue Bdu Uniform To Any Other Option And A Like Number Came Down In Favor Of The Khaki/black Service Uniform With Collar Devices.
    5. Tfu Seriously Considered The Opinions Of The Men And Women Who Will Wear These Uniforms. It Was Very Clear To The Cno During Recent Visits To The Fleet -- Through The Informal Little Polls He Conducted On The Mess Decks -- That Sailors Are Ready For A Change, And Not Just For Changes Sake. He Thinks Sailors Honestly Desire Better And More Professional Uniforms Than The Ones We Are Issuing Them Today.
    6. The Tfu Effort Is Not Over. I Need The Continued Support Of You And Your Sailors. Cno Has Directed Tfu To Consider In Phase Two The Cost And Feasibility Of Additional Uniform Options, To Include A Service Dress Khaki Uniform For Chiefs And Officers; The Use Of A Ceremonial Cutlass For Enlisted Sailors; And A Service-wide Physical Training Uniform. Tfu Will Also Continue Efforts Already Underway To Evaluate And Study Current Officer And Enlisted Dress Uniforms And Investigate The Practicality Of Adopting A Service-wide All-weather Coat.

its not about the camo, its about phasing out old shitty expensive uniforms that wear and tear easily and require more maintenance that we arent even allowed to wear off base

now we can wear these ugly pos's wherever we want and its easy to just iron them flat...

youre right, it always bugs me seeing people out in cammies aswell

but it will be a relief to atleast be able to drive onto base to work wearing them...we arent allowed to come wearing our coveralls as it is now
