everyone said that rolled oats suck and are too high gi and i had too much sugar last time... so what about now? i'm trying to lose like 20 lbs over the next 2-3 months, and i have one of these every morning instead of my usual breakfast (nothing)

    1/2 cup organic fat-free yogurt
    1/2 cup mootopia skim milk
1/4 cup steel cut oats (so much better vs. rolled, btw)
    2 tbsp. flax seed meal
    1/2 tbsp flax seed oil
    1 scoop ON whey protein
1 tbsp oj concentrate (w/ calcium)
    half banana
a few frozen strawberries and blueberries
    2 caplets green tea extract
    1 packet emergen-c vitamin C/B complex supplement

    580 calories, 15g fat, 64g carbs (10g fiber, 33g sugars), 45g protein

approx 40% calories from carbs, 35% protein, 25% fats

that looks like a pain in the ass to make for only 580 calories

I'd still aim for less sugar personally, but that is just me. I'd drop the OJ and the milk and just use water. Only reason being that it would free up some calories for later in the day. Basically, as long as you're in a caloric deficit for the day and are hitting your protein requirements, it doesn't much fucking matter how much shit you throw in there.

yeah thats probably true, the oj is like 12g sugars and not much else aside from calcium and vitamin c, which i get enough of in there. the mootopia milk is fine though, 1 cup has 4g sugars and 14g protein w/ 0 fat

btw, flax seed meal is fucking badass. its all omega-3 fats, fiber, and protein. everyone should be dumping that shit in their shakes

i think it was specifically the fact that i throw them in a blender with the shake and they get pretty much pulverized. the steel cut oats, however, are supposedly lower gi because they dont get pulverized in the blender and take a lot longer to digest. they also taste better and have more fiber

With the fiber and fat you have in your shake, GI is a non-issue.

yeah, i dunno. i just like the taste of oj, and i'm not trying to completely eliminate sugars. there is nothing wrong with some carbs. its just that by blending the rolled oats in the blender, the are digested much faster vs. the steel cut.

i may still take out the oj

do you have any articles or some kind of research showing that just by chopping up those little oats that it makes them digest faster? i dont see how that can make them digest faster than if you actaully cooked them and made them nearly as soft as a paste.

i dont, but from a biochemical standpoint it makes sense. cooking them would probably be the worst, throw all this stuff in there uncooked.

More surface area = faster digestion
