Saw a small blurb in the newspaper about this:

    http://www.bedgunsafe.com/

functions as a box spring, holds up to 32 rifles, and is fire protected

  2. I've seen that before. Neat idea if you rarely access your safe, but that would drive me crazy. I'm opening my safe all the time.

doesn't really look like the one I saw though. That thing looks way too big once you would put a box spring and/or mattress on top

plus technically couldn't you just lay 2 safes on their back and put a mattress on top? bet these things are pretty fucking expensive, at least the ones I saw a few years ago were

  7. Wouldn't the dial/ keypad be kind of uncomfortable to lay on?

A good box spring isn't a metal box.

 there is no way that thing could function as a box springs. its a box, but has no springs. might as well put your mattress on some rocks

I don't like that idea. It would give a thief more room to get better leverage with a large prybar. The whole idea of putting a safe in a closet/corner/against a wall is to make it harder for them to get leverage.

I'm still toying around with the idea of building something similar but more like an under bed storage cabinet. Linear bearings, fold down front door, slide out gun rack, it wouldn't be to hard to make it have a load rating of a couple thousand pounds, fire rated, and pretty damn hard to get into.

I figure if someone is coming into my house with tools and the intention of breaking into a safe, doesn't really matter what kind of safe I have that costs less than about 10k, I'm already screwed.

If you had a tempurpedic, she could stay sleeping and you could have a firefight. ;)
