I have a last gen MacBook pro with the 128mb video card.

I'm looking to upgrade, and on amazon the two new Mbps are 256mb for $1800 or the 512mb model for $2400. The only real difference is the video card.

What I'm wondering is if the 512 is worth the money....
    (1) with general video performance
    (2) with the new snow leopard stuff (the major thing is that it will offload CPU cycles to the GPU, right?)

...and should I wait until snow leopard comes out? When is that?

no. Video ram on a Apple makes very little difference unless you are using it as an OpenGL work machine, which in that case you'd be using a Quadro FX in a Mac Pro.

Even if you game in windows, video ram won't make a big difference unless it is the bottleneck, and with a 9600 you won't be playing high enough resolutions to use the extra video ram.

a number of things, not the least of which is the fact that the case is deforming through no fault of my own. *why* i want to upgrade isn't the issue.
