This has been getting posted in Craigslist the past few weeks

    www.BorrowLenses.com

Seems like they are building a good inventory of lenses, I might have to give them a try!

I've never rented lenses before but the prices seem reasonable. :dunno:

Keeble and Shucat (spl) also rents lenses and they have an AMAZING store. It's on N. Califormia in Palo Alto.

    Hi All,

I noticed some hits coming from here and decided to pop in and introduce myself. My name is Max and I am the co-founder of http://www.BorrowLenses.com.

Nick, first off, thanks for the shut-out. Second, the 10-22 comes back to us on August 13th and you welcome to it afterwards. Are you here locally?

    Scirio, where are you at?

Anyways, let me know if you have any questions about how our rental program works, prices, etc.

    Viper,
Do tell where it is that you get cheaper local prices. We thought we pretty much undercut everyone. Especially for long term (1+ weeks) rentals.

    Thanks,
    Max

For a week you probably do, I've never needed anything that long so I :dunno:

Glazers Camera is where I rent, friday pick up, monday drop off is 1 day rental, so thats what I'm use to doing.

I'm sure you each have various pieces that are cheeper than one another, I was just looking at items I have rented recently. For example:
    A canon 300 2.8 IS is $40 instead of $70

Ahh, Glazers, we meet again :). It seems like you guys in Seattle have a nice cheap local option available. A few weeks ago, we compared some prices from Glazers with our local shop that scirio mentioned (K&S) and Glazers are usually 20-30 % cheaper - wonder why that is?

In any case, we know we probably won't be able to take much business away from local shops that charge about the same for daily as we do, but it's the folks that don't have a local shop nearby and need lenses for 3 days or more that will greatly benefit form services like ours.

yeah, your business will be for longer trips or places that don't have pro shops around. I'm use to Brooks' checkout facility where it was free ;)

Brooks Institute of Photography, a school in santa barbara, has the full lines of Nikon, Canon, Leica and medium and large format stuff . . . all free for its students

Blast! There goes our plan to market to photography schools. I guess they already have some lens loaner system. Is their equipment relatively new and in good shape? Or is it all beat up and hardly functioning? That seems to be sort of the case with local shops here.

You can do it, but look into what the schools have. Brooks is out for you, and I'd imagine RIT as well. But the art institutes or smaller schools don't carry the selection a student needs, if anything at all.

It was all different shapes, some was brand new, some was older.

The only decent lens rental place is Mikes Camera downtown Denver, and they are way high priced.....you have to buy out the lens too to rent it, ie...pay full price and then get it back when you return it.....gay balls

My partner Mark will be in Denver August 24th-26th. He will be in the Aurora and Boulder areas. He can hand deliver the lens to you, so that you only pay half shipping. Just schedule a time and place. Drop us a line through our email if you are interested.

Here's an idea. Order it for two weeks, then pay half of the shipping and drop off the lens to him when Mark is in town :)
